I love the High Line! And my first visit was in winter, too. Like you point out, there are actually a lot of things to see in a garden in winter, as long as the gardeners haven't been too enterprising and cleared out all the "dead" stuff. :) Ice- and snow-covered seedheads are one of my favorite sights in the winter garden.

That's great, thanks. I think there are quite a few in Cardiff now. The Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens is setting up a network for Cardiff projects so it would be worth passing people on to that.

You may wish to contact ISSA Wales on Whitchurch about their community garden project. They have got the community together to help transform their garden space into an outdoor retreat for their clients. The work is ongoing so worth contacting them with any advice, tips, research.

the difference I guess is that it produces something Hannah. I do the housework (very occasionally) but know that the dust will be coming back again within minutes as we have a wood burner and by the end of the week it will be back where I started from. With the garden, provided you don't go on a fortnights holiday at the wrong time, the struggle to keep on top of the weeds is allowing something else to happen and soon those little shoots start in a straight line and you know you have something to nurture that, with perseverence, will be something to eat or perhaps to admire for its beauty. So far house work has never given me that thrill. I do think people take on too much, I've done it myself in the past, few people have the time to keep on top of an entire alltoment and starting from neck high brambles with just a spade as one of my friends has recently done I fear they have no chance at all and will soon be disheartened. Better to have a plot, be it only a window box, that you can cope with and get pleasure from than a huge garden that is just a worry.
